June Close juneclose@ymail.com Uganda Businessma­n Gerry Gallacher who set up the local charity shop for children in need in the local Indoor Market is planning a trip to Uganda to build an orphanage known as our Lords Grace Orphanage which will cater for 219 children. Gerry is also taking over much needed pens, pencils, writing books, sharpeners etc. and with this in mind if anyone feels able to contribute then please drop items into the Indoor Market 1 Blackfauld­s Place. These small items will be much appreciate­d by these orphaned children and Gerry takes this opportunit­y to thank people in advance for their kindness.

Peru Afternoon Tea fundraisin­g event in Longridge Community Centre on Sunday from 2-4pm. Adults £5 and children £3. The event is being organised by a group of teenagers from Whitburn Academy who are going on a Vine Trust School Expedi- tion to Peru in June 2108. Whilst there they will do hands on work to help build and maintain orphanages and schools in areas of poverty. Their work will help the most vulnerable of children with a home and an education. Please come along and support the teenagers with their fund-raising efforts.

West Lothian Council Adult Learning Team are offering a range of Summer Adult Learning Opportunit­ies across the county ranging from Accredited Learning to a Fun one off workshops and Tater Sessions. Examples include an SQA qualificat­ion in Word -processing, Spreadshee­ts or just come along and find out more about tablets, iPads or smartphone­s. Tablets and iPads will be available for use or you can bring along your own. Basic Digital Photograph­y and how to get music from your CDs to use on your own tablet or mobile phone will also be offered to name a few.
