Celebration night for arrowsmiths
West Calder & District stars collect silverware
The West Calder and District Darts League celebrated their fine season with an awards night.
The league’s players were all on show with the winners of the various competitions throughout the year recognised and presented with trophies for their exploits.
It was a Stirrup Stane double in the leagues with the Wanderers picking up their Premier League trophy and the Indians being crowned Championship winners.
The Cawburn Assassins were the other big winners of the night as they picked up an impressive quartet of trophies, winning the KO Cup, Jocky Watson Fours, Three Person Team and Matchplay Doubles titles.
The Volunteer Highway Men, who were pipped at the post for the Premiership title, had to settle for the League Fours trophy while the Commercial Inn won the final team trophy as they picked up the League Doubles title.
The Roll of Honour continued with the individual awards being lifted by Arran Edwards (Christmas Singles), William Borland ( 301 Singles), Jamie Banks (Delegates Champion), Davie Aitken ( Champion of Champions and League Singles) and Denise Bird (Ladies Singles).
While celebrations took place on Saturday, there had already been plenty of darting action amongst the West Lothian contingent in the previous days, with events taking place in Edinburgh.
A sizeable number travelled through to Murrayfield Sports Bar on Thursday night for a singles competition. Graeme Bird, Kieran Bird, Rab Dick and Jim Mitchell all put on impressive displays but William Borland outshone everyone as he brought the title back west after defeating Edinburgh’s Alan White 5-3 in the final.
Borland was in impressive form all evening, firing in a pair of 180s along with scores of 174 and 171.
He added three century finishes (104, 108 and 108) and nine sub20 dart legs as he proved simply too good for the rest of the field to deservedly win the title.
The following day saw some of West Lothian’s finest arrowsmiths competing in the Gladstone’s Friday Night League in Leith. Davie Nisbet of the Volunteer Highway Men was on the maximum trail with two 180s as well as a brilliant 14-dart leg.
However, he was outdone by Brucefield Farmers ace John Charleston who notched a hat-trick of maximums along with a cracking 130-game shot.
