ALEXANDER SET FOR LIONS RETURN

Former keeper to sign deal

- Callum Carson

Neil Alexander is set to complete a sensational return to Livingston with the former Scotland goalkeeper expected to finalise a deal before the weekend.

The 39- year- old, who spent three seasons with the club between 1998 and 2001 before being sold to Cardiff City for £ 130,000, has been looking for first-team football since leaving Aberdeen at the end of last season.

Courier Sport understands the Lions first made contact with the three- times capped goalie two months ago and he has been their primary transfer target heading into their Championship campaign.

The veteran, who won Second and First Division titles during his first spell in West Lothian, had watched Livi’s pre-season games against Hearts and Motherwell.

Alexander’s career includes three Scottish Premiership titles with Rangers as well as playing in the club’s 2008 UEFA Cup Final defeat to Zenit St Petersburg in Manchester. He played at Hearts and had spells in England with Cardiff and Ipswich Town.

Gary Maley is currently the only registered first- team goalkeeper at the club while trialists Lukasz Skowron and Graeme Smith have featured in friendlies but won’t be offered deals. It is understood that Alexander will be registered in time to be named in Livingston’s squad for their pre-season friendly on Saturday against Kilmarnock.
