PEDAL POWER

- Debbie Hall

A family- run business has organised over 12 hours of fundraising to help children’s cancer charities.

Shirley Mollon, along with her husband Eddy and children Dean and daughter Natalie, have organised a 50-mile cycle followed by a charity night at Bathgate British Legion on Saturday.

This is the second year the family - who run Bulkweld at Dechmont - have organised a day- long fundraising venture and hope to raise even more this time around.

Shirley explained: “The daytime event is a 50-mile cycle and we have organised a night time event in the Bathgate British Legion Club where we will have entertainment, raffles and a photo booth and hopefully raise a substantial amount for the charities this year again.

“Last year we raised over £8500 which enabled us to give a donation to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children as well as Children’s Cancer UK and also to two local children who were trying to raise money for treatment in America.

“We hope to have about 40 to 50 cyclists for the daytime event and about 150 for the evening event.”

There aren’t many tickets for the evening event but entry for cyclists is £15 per person, there are a couple of rest breaks with drinks and snacks and the entry fee goes directly to the charity.

Cyclists will meet at the meadow park at 6.30am and leave at 7am.
