to take when you are over 50, but if you get invited to do it then you should.”

She added: “No one knows your body like you do and if you feel something isn’t right, get it checked out. Our doctors and nurses truly do a wonderful job to help us at some stage of our lives.”

Dianne was diagnosed with cancer after seeing a doctor who referred her for more tests.

A few weeks later, Dianne was diagnosed with bowel cancer and has since been through a major operation and is currently receiving six months of chemotherapy at St John’s Hospital’s Oncology Department.

Mandy said: “The staff have been really good with her. All who work there have been fantastic and as such we would like to give something back to them. All donations will be given to the Oncology Department who I’m sure will be so grateful.”

Mandy decided to take on the 13.1 miles of the Scottish Half Marathon as she used to run as a teen and had recently started again with the parkruns in West Lothian.

As it is for charity Mandy said she wanted to take on a run that would really “push” her.

Mandy said: “I’ve never attempted to run this far – however, I gathered that if my mum can go through having cancer with a smile on her face I can go through the pain of running 13.1 miles.”

Mandy has so far managed to raise £1650 for the Oncology Ward through sponsor sheets and her Just Giving page.
