Singer Eddi tops bill at new folk festival

Torphichen on map

- Sean O’Neil

A new two- day West Lothian folk festival will take place next month headlined by Scottish singer Eddi Reader.

The Folk ‘n’ Ale Festival in Torphichen will take place on Friday, August 18 and Saturday, 19 with a host of folk musicians playing in the village and craft beers from local breweries to be enjoyed.

Playing the festival alongside Reader is Scottish outfit North Sea Gas, Katie Kross and the Amberjacks and many more.

Kenny Craig, the festival’s organiser, said he hoped the festival would help put Torphichen on the map.

Mr Craig said: “It’s the first village Folk ‘n’ Ale Festival and we want to make it a wee bit special so we’ve got Eddi Reader which is a huge pull for us.

“I jus t wanted to put Torphichen on the map. I’m a West Lothian laddie and I’m aware that West Lothian is known for its industrial past but maybe we need to reinvent it a bit and regenerate it.

“We need to put ourselves on the map as a place to come and see.”

As such Mr Craig has tried to give the festival as local a feel as possible with local breweries Alchemy Brewing and Krafty Brew helping to supply the festival drinks and The Regal Theatre in Bathgate being the ticket seller and distributor for the festival.

Tickets for the two-day festival cost £80 with the price including 10 beer tokens and two main meal tokens and two burger tokens.

One day tickets for the festival are also available.

For an extra £20 festival-goers can book two nights at the local Craigs Camping Centre where their will be showers and toilets among other facilities.

To buy tickets contact the Regal Theatre on 01506 630 085.
