Isabel falls short in Games medals bid
Livingston swimmer Isabel Jones suffered Commonwealth Youth Games despair as she fell just shy of medals in numerous competitions.
But the 17-year-old put in a string of brilliant performances as she qualified for the finals in all five competitions in which she competed in the Bahamas.
Her best performance came in the 200m butterfly where she eased into the final by finishing third in 2:16.59 in her heat.
She was able to knock more than two seconds off that time in the final later in the day but could only finish in fourth place in 2:14.27.
In the shorter 100m butterfly, she again eased into the final with a decent swim to finish third in her heat before an almost identical time in the final (1:02.40) was good enough for sixth spot.
In the backstroke events, Isabel finished eighth in the 50m backstroke final with a time of 30.47, which was 0.01 seconds faster than her heat earlier that day.
And in the 100m backstroke, she was the first Scot home in 1:04.90, finishing fifth in the final which was won by South Africa’s Mariella Venter in 1:01.77.
Isabel was also part of the Team Scotland 4x100m freestyle relay who ended the Youth Games in seventh place in a time of 4:05.13, well behind the medal positions with England (3:59.33) claiming bronze.
