We’ve done the job

Five weeks ago we sat and watched with anticipation as the Betfred group stages were drawn but it couldn’t really have placed us in a tougher group.

Top six Premiership side Partick Thistle, a Championship promotion contender in St Mirren and a full-time League One Airdrieonians along with a tricky Stranraer side.

Let’s be honest, not many of us liked our chances of qualifying, but what was to follow once the action kicked off was an incredible achievement as we won the group and booked our place in the next round.

A draw at home to Partick with the added extra penalty shoot-out point and then the unexpected victory over St Mirren set us up nicely for the two games at home to Airdrie and away to Stranraer knowing two wins would be enough to top the group.

There was no danger we were going to let that chance slip, with not only sporting achievement to be had but financial gain for qualifying.

A professional job at home to Airdrie saw us run out comfortable 2-0 winners and a hard fought 4-2 win on Tuesday night away to Stranraer means we can put our feet up knowing that Saturday’s games will have no impact on us and we can look forward to the last 16 draw on Sunday evening as Group H winners.

A huge congratulations must go to the players and staff on what has been a fine achievement. Now...who do you want in the last-16 draw ?
