Ewan off to flier

-

The stock car season opened on Saturday in Cowdenbeath and West Lothian riders put in a string of fine displays despite the heavy rain that fell throughout the course of the day.

Armadale’s Ewan Mackie was making his racing debut but shone in the trying conditions as he managed to finish in all bar the opening heat in the BriSCA Formula II event.

Finishes of eighth, seventh and sixth showed improvement and poise

Linlithgow’s Glenn Heeps switched from the Two Litre National saloons to the 1300 saloons after being away from the racing scene for over a year.

The first heat saw Heeps finish behind winner James Ellis by some distance but he got the better of his rival in heat two to take the win.

With conditions getting worse by the minute, Heeps was shunted at the start of the next heat and although he restarted the race, he was out of touch with the leaders and was forced to settle for fifth place.

This weekend sees the BriSCA Formula II drivers back in action along with the 2 litre National Saloons, where champion Ian McLaughlin is set to make his debut.

Backing them at the Cowdenbeath Racewall on Saturday are the ORCi Stock Rods as well as the 800cc National Bangers.
