Park volunteers need more help in the parks
An enthusiastic group of volunteers with a love of the countryside are looking for more West Lothian people to work with them on their new programme for 2018.
And with the range of jobs to be tackled, the Friends of Almondell and Calderwood group have room to welcome anyone wishing to join them.
The group assist the country parks rangers with conservation, maintenance, promotion and events at Almondell and Calderwood Country Park.
The group’s plans for 2018 include maintaining the ponds in Calderwood and new planting on the former mansion site slopes.
They also carry out regular tasks such as bracken whipping, bramble control, eradicating invasive plants such as Himalyan balsam and Japanese Knotweed, litter picking and keeping pathways clear.
Anyone considering joining the group can contact them via their Facebook page at www. facebook. com/ friendsofalmondell or by calling the park’s ranger team on 01506 882254.
