Parky Pals helping the homeless

-

Pupils at a West Lothian primary school are working to help the homeless.

Parkey Pals are a group of pupils from Primary One to Primary 7 at Parkhead Primary School in West Calder who want to help their community. One of the group, Isla Anderson in P5b, came up with the idea of a Pack a Care Kit for Someone without a Home and pupils produced a poster of this idea.

The school’s PPA agreed to fund a prototype of a kit with an estimated cost of £50 and The West Kirk of Calder backed the campaign by showing the poster at the Easter service. A spokesperson for the school said: “The next step was to write business letters to local businesses to request a small, regular contribution in order to keep producing the backpacks to meet needs.

“Morrisons in Livingston responded immediately with a generous offer of £20 voucher each month to buy many of the items.

“The group will be communicating with Social Bite and West Lothian Council in order to give these where they are needed. We are extremely proud of all our Parkey Pals group.”
