Shoppers turned up in their droves recently for a fun footie challenge at The Cent re, Livingston to raise funds for the mall’s affiliated charity, the West Lothian Youth Foundation, (WLYF).

For a donation of £ 2, shoppers were invited to take three footie shots in a mini pop up pitch to be in with a chance of winning great prizes including a tablet, to help raise funds and awareness of the local charity.

West Lothian Youth Foundation promotes the educational and health development of people in the local community through sport and run over 100 clubs every week for people of all ages, including the Primary School Futsal, Reminiscence, Walking Football and Sporting Chances programmes.

All proceeds from the day will go towards West Lothian Youth Foundation’s Fit4Life Programme for youngsters aged 16 to 25 years of age.

The free eight- week programme helps support young people facing specific barriers when entering employment, education or training and day-to-day life in general.

It not only helps them to increase confidence, s e l f- esteem, health and wellbeing but also to obtain new skills and access supported training and employment opportunities by taking part in various activities including football coaching sessions and qualifications, cycling event s, health and fitness classes, weight management and cookery classes.

Scott Millar, general manager, West Lothian Youth Foundation, said: “We had a great time in the mall over the weekend - kids and adults really enjoyed taking part in the footie challenge, which was a huge success.

“We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who came along to support us and take part in the challenge at The Centre, which gave us the chance to tell people in the area about some the exciting programmes we run.”

Ashley Bisland, deputy centre director at The Centre, added: “We are delighted the weekend fundraiser for West Lothian Youth Foundation went so well - it was great fun and we are really looking forward to having the charity back into the mall in the coming months.”
