Come and meet the hidden treasures who need a home

- Debbie Hall

The Dogs Trust’s Rehoming Centre in West Calder will be showcasing some of the wonderful characters that are in desperate need of a new home.

Staff say the centre is filled with dogs, all with their own unique personalities and character traits, and members of the public are invited to meet them at the upcoming Hidden Treasures event on Sunday, May 20, from 12pm until 3pm.

The free event will provide potential owners with the opportunity to learn about the personalities of the rehoming centre’s more unique - and often overlooked - dogs searching for willing and patient owners who understand their individual requirements.

Attendees will hear from canine carers and members of the training and behaviour team about the types of homes needed for each dog, the majority of which have been working with the rehoming centre’s specialised team to overcome behavioural issues and require experienced owners who can continue to assist them in their development.

Susan Tonner, rehoming centre manager, said: “Some of our residents have been with us for a long time and we want nothing more than for them to have their fairytale ending.

“This event is the perfect opportunity to match some of our longer term dogs with their special someone.

“We really hope anyone thinking about coming along will keep an open mind about the type of dog that could become the perfect addition to their family.

“The dogs promoted at the event are all wonderful dogs, who have plenty of love to give and most of them just need a special type of home, with someone who has a bit of time and patience to get to know them at their own pace, and build up a bond with them.”

Susan cont i nued: “Canine residents can become overlooked for a broad range of reasons, including: their age, breed, special training requirements they might have from the family home, or even their general appearance.

“It is important for us that we try and challenge misconceptions and show that underneath the surface of any dog, there is a family pet waiting to fulfil its potential.”

Attendees will also get the opportunity to chat with staff and ask any questions they have, while enjoying some light refreshments.
