-

From Torphichen to Los Angeles – it has been quite a footballing journey for West Lothian’s Calum Mallace, who made his Los Angeles FC debut last week in the club’s 2-0 victory over Minnesota United in Major League Soccer.

The 28-year-old midfielder was born in Torphichen but moved to Minnesota at the age of nine and has since gone on to enjoy a fine career in the States.

After impressing at high school in Minnesota, he spent four years at Marquette University where he impressed and was named as Second Team All-American.

Mallace was then drafted 20th overall in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft by the Montreal Impact and went on to make over 100 appearances for the Canadian outfit over six seasons – which also included a loan spell at Minnesota United.

After a short stint at Seattle, he made the switch to LAFC ahead of their maiden MLS season but injury has hampered his time.

He replaced Eduoard Atuesta in the 89th minute in the victory.
