Pumphy seal fine away win

- Easthouses......3 Pumpherston ..... 6

Broxburn Athletic’s promising Superleague campaign continues to fizzle out after another heavy defeat.

Having not tasted defeat for seven months prior to an away loss at Lochee United at the end of March, Athletic have just one win and four defeats to their name in their last seven fixtures - putting a dent in their hopes of a top-four finish.

The hosts were the better team from the first whistle and they took the lead after just six minutes through Ross Crawford.

Zander Murray got on the end of a neat Darren Downie lay-off but saw his effort saved as the away side looked for a Pumpherston showed no signs of a hangover from last week’s title success as they sealed an emphatic away win at Easthouses.

Pumphy were crowned South Division champs last week despite losing a three-goal lead in a 4-3 home loss but they were back to winning ways at the weekend.

The hosts started the better of the two sides but it was the visitors who opened the scoring when Steven Fleming fired his side into the lead after he casually rounded the keeper.

Paul McDermott drew the hosts level but Aaron Gowans was the quickest to react to a fine save from the Lily keeper as he bundled the ball over the line to give his side their second lead of the game.

The sides were tied at the break thanks to Lewis Russell but Pumphy were much the better team after the interval.

Goals from Adam Forrest and Barry Nicholson put Pumphy in control although Lily did reduce the deficit to a single goal at 4-3 as the game entered the final quarter.

Jay Doyle restored the two-goal lead as he was able to tap home after racing through on goal while Nicholson’s second ensured it was three points and six goals for the away side with a fine strike in the final minutes.
