Rose hang on to hopes

- Dundonald B’ll........ 1 Linlithgow Rose ..... 2

Linlithgow Rose kept alive their faint hopes of Superleague title success after a stunning final 10 minutes away at Dundonald.

Mark Bradley’s men appeared set to effectively hand the title to Bonnyrigg Rose following a frustrating contest that saw them trail heading into the latter stages, with Ruari MacLennan being sent off for the visitors.

However, an own goal and then a Gary Thom strike ensured all three points returned to West Lothian.

A terrific save from Darren Hill in the early stages kept the game scoreless as he tipped a close-range effort on to the crossbar before almost gifting the hosts a goal as he fluffed an attempt to claim a cross.

He was caught out by a Stuart Walton free-kick from out on the left that was whipped in to the box before the break – with the ball finding its way into the far corner for the opening goal.

MacLennan was then dismissed for an off-the-ball incident as the Rose gave themselves a mountain to climb in the second half.

Despite that, it took a spirited defensive display for the hosts to still have their noses in front heading into the closing stages.

The Rose would finally get the luck they had been lacking all game when a corner-kick was punched clear by he home side’s goalkeeper – only to bounce off a defender and into the net for an equaliser.

And it was from the next corner that Linlithgow scored the deciding goal with Thom rising the highest to head his side to three points.

The Rose still have a tall order if they are to win the title as they trail by eight points, albeit with a game in hand.
