Paedo is jailed for 11 years Grandad’s anger over sentence

- Court Reporter

The grandfather of a little girl sexually abused by a predator jailed for 11 years this week has said no sentence will ever be long enough.

Ryan Anderson was sentenced to 11 years in prison and four years on licence for various sexual offences against his victim at the High Court in Glasgow on Tuesday.

Between February 2015 and 2017, 28- year- old Anderson subjected the then eight- year- old girl to sexual assaults at an address in Bathgate, as well as a holiday park in Ayr.

After the victim reported the abuse to police, a major investigation was launched by officers from the Lothians and Scottish Borders Public Protection Unit (PPU).

Anderson was arrested in March 2017 before being Sentenced Ryan Anderson convicted at Glasgow High Court on April 26 this year.

The girl’s grandfather, who cannot be named, told the Courier no sentence would ever be long enough for what he had done.

“I think he should have been jailed for longer but apparently this is the maximum the court could give him. “He has ruined her life but at least he’s off the streets and can’t do this to another wean.”

Detective Inspector Brian Manchester from the PPU praised the girl and her family for their bravery.

He said: “Over an extensive period of time Ryan Anderson subjected a young girl to a horrific level of sexual abuse with no remorse for the devastating impact his crimes have had on her.

“Thanks to the victim’s courage, we were able to gather significant evidence against Anderson, which ultimately led to his custodial sentence.

“I would like to thank the girl for her bravery and support of our investigation and I sincerely hope that she can now begin to move on with her life, as her abuser prepares to spend a considerable period of time in prison.”
