Linlithgow remain perfect

-

Linlithgow remain unbeaten after a final over victory against Watsonians away from home.

The hosts made a great start as they raced to 110-1 at the drinks interval, but Linlithgow fought back hard in the field and bowled well over the closing stages to restrict their opponents to 223-5 from their 45 overs.

They should have scored well over 250, so Linlithgow’s spirits were up at the change of innings.

John Strachan and Donald Bennie opened steadily with 30 runs from the first 10 overs before Bennie was caught in the covers.

Donald’s younger brother Patrick then fell for 15 which brought Kevin Stump to the crease and really gave the visitors momentum.

He fell for 64 but the partnership had put Linlithgow requiring 43 runs from 44 balls to win with Strachan (82 not out) and Gregor Thomson (20 not out) seeing them over the line.

This weekend, Linlithgow host a table-topping clash with fellow unbeaten side Marchmont.

The club’s Second XI also won as their 147-5 against Broomhall was enough to clinch a 33 run win in their Division Four fixture.

Fauldhouse Vics claimed their first win of the season in style, bowling out Hawick and Wilton for 88 before needing less than 29 overs to chase down the target - for the loss of five wickets.

Livingston made it four wins from four as they skittled Edinburgh South all out for 86, requiring 22 overs to seal the victory and remain top of Division Two.

Livi’s Second XI lost by seven wickets at home to Carlton Fourths.
