Rose cruise to victory in league clash

-

Linlithgow Rose sealed an emphatic 4-0 victory over Forfar West End in what could be their final Juniors game.

The Rose eased to victory thanks to goals from Blair Batchelor, Gary Thom, Tommy Coyne and Alan Urquhart.

Thom’s was a stunning 50-yard effort while prolific hitman Coyne took his tally to 295 goals in a Rose jersey after yet another successful season for the club, who finished second in the Superleague.

Whitburn were the only other West Lothian side in action at the weekend as they ended a disappointing season with a spirited 2-1 loss at Haddington Athletic as they finished the campaign second bottom of the Premier League.

The Burnie gave as good as they got against Athletic - who finished third in the table but will be joining the East of Scotland League over the summer.

Both sides went close in a goalless first half that had an end of season feel to it before the hosts got themselves in front on the hour mark.

Declan Quinn showed neat control to fire the ball home. That led to the Hi Hi’s taking control of the game but they would allow the Burnie back into it as Gary Brass made the most of an error to equalise for the visitors.

With the game set to finish on level terms, Andy Jones struck in the 90th minute with a fine solo effort to send Whitburn to defeat.
