COUNTY SCHOOL SPORTS FINALS
Parkhead are champs
West Lothian’s Primary School Track and Field Championships saw more than 260 pupils competing for medals.
Xcite Craigswood in Livingston hosted the big event recently which saw Primary 7 pupils from 17 schools across West Lothian.
A gentle fog and cool breeze didn’t dampen the spirits with pupils achieving some excellent times on the day and the sun eventually split the sky for the last few events.
The championships were organised by West Lothian Council’s Active Schools and Community Sport Team, with support from volunteers from the local Athletics Clubs, Scottish Athletics and West Lothian College.
Congratulations go to Parkhead Primary in West Calder for winning the overall team event.
West Lothian Council’s Head of Education Jim Cameron who presented the medals on the day said:“It was wonderful to see so many primary schools participating in this event at Craigswood.
“My congratulations to not only those who managed a podium place but also to those children who learned something new and participated in an event they hadn’t tried before.
“My thanks go to the teachers and support staff that brought the pupils and also to the volunteers who worked hard to ensure the event ran smoothly.
“This is one of a number of large sporting events that schools participate in and it is great that we are able to provide opportunities for young people to be active, feel healthier and gain confidence through sport”.
This event was supported by Livingston and District AAC and Linlithow AC and children or parents can find more information at www.livingstonac.com or www.linlithgowac.org.uk.
