A young West Lothian rower’s dream year continued as he picked up two British Championship medals.

Dale Flockhart, 19, lifted a double at the British Rowing Senior Championships in Nottingham at the weekend.

The Livingston rower was competing with his Edinburgh University team when he took home the Open Lightweight Double Sculls medal and the Open Lightweight Quad Sculls.

Dale said: “It was great. It was my first senior British competition so to come away with two wins and a third is brilliant.

“It was a great weekend overall.

“Obviously I have a very good team and we’re aiming to become the best scull team in Britain.”

The latest medal haul continues the medical science student’s great year after he was chosen to compete for Great Britain in the under-23 World Championships in Poland in August this year.

Dale was part of the lightweight men’s Quadruple Sculls team that finished in ninth place at the World Championships.

The rower will now turn his attention to training for the Great Britain trials again which begin in November and continue through to April next year.

Dale said: “I’m training away for the singles. Hopefully I can come top of the Under- 23s and work my way into the seniors.”

Speaking to The Courier, Dale said that his goal for next year was to be in either the lightweight singles or doubles.

The young rower came third in the previous trials but hopes to claim his spot this time.

He said: “My two clubmates were in the doubles this year and I came third in trials so I just missed out.”
