munity Development Trust are currently preparing for the centenary of Armistice Day, as part of the extended commemorations, they would like to create a digital memorial for those who served in the Great War and for those who gave their lives in the Great War, to create a Heritage project. They are looking for letters, memorabilia or any photographs that can be scanned and will be added to the Heritage website. Please contact the Trust office in West Calder Community Centre if you have any items you wish to be included.
CDT would also like to create a Poppy Walkway to commemorate the sacrifices made by so many local families, they are looking for as many people as possible who live or work on the Main Street to display a poppy in their front window. The poppies can be supplied by the trust for display. They would very much welcome donations of knitted or crochet poppies to help create a display, please contact the Trust on 872931 for further information. Fundraising Afternoon Music Concert in aid of Namibia 2019 Scouting Trip will be held on Sun 18th Nov 2-4pm, West Kirk, West Calder. Tickets priced £5 for adults, £3 for under 16s will be available on the door or from Aonghas or Rhoda Lawton (via West Kirk or Polbeth Harwood Church). Local Explorer Scout, Aonghas Lawton has been selected to travel with the Forth Region Scouts to Namibia in 2019 to continue the project work in Omakange begun in 2017. Three weeks of building projects, helping out in the local schools & other community based work awaits 33 Scouts. Aonghas has raised his target for the Project but is now fundraising to get himself to Namibia to be part of the Project Team. The concert will feature Toccata Ladies Choir, Folk Music from an Edinburgh based group & Aonghas & Friends from West Lothian NYCOS will take part. There will also be a raffle. A warm welcome awaits everyone.
Scout Group We have vacancies in all sections for boys and girls: Beavers - Age 6 to 8yrs- meet on a Monday evening in the West Kirk Hall from 6.15 until 7.15pm. Cubs - Age 8yrs to 10yrs 6months - meet on a Wednesday evening in the West Kirk Hall from 6.15 until 7.30pm. Scouts - Age 10yrs 6months to 14yrs - meet on a Thursday evening in the West Kirk Hall from 6.30 until 8.30pm. Explorers - Age 14yrs to 18yrs - meet on a Thursday evening at the Community Garden from 6.20 until 8.40pm. We are also looking for adult helpers in the Beaver and Scout sections.
