Whitburn crash out of cup

-

Whitburn crashed out the Scottish Junior Cup at the fourth round on Saturday as they were on the wrong end of a 4-2 defeat to Darvel .

Burnie took the lead after nine minutes through Gary Brass but it wasn’t for long as Martin Findlay brought Darvel level shortly after.

The Vale had goalie David Markey to thank as he made four crucial saves to keep Whitburn at bay as the visitors piled on the pressure.

However Mark Gilmour then gave the home side the lead on 35 minutes with a top-corner strike.

This finished up the scoring for the first half as the home side went in to the break 2-1 up.

But the lead wouldn’t last long as Whitburn drew level again on 49 minutes when a shot by Greg Nicol was deflected into the net.

But Callum Walsh restored the home side’s lead with a powerful header from a Cameron cross and this time there would be no way back into the game for the West Lothian side.

The result was sealed with 10 minutes to go when the impressive Vernon’s shot was deflected into the path of Findlay.

He passed it into the back of the net to add his side’s fourth.

Whitburn have a free week now but return to cup action the following Saturday when Whitburn take on Armadale Thistle in the East Region League Cup.
