Money ad­vice ses­sions

A num­ber of events will soon be tak­ing place across West Loth­ian with the aim of get­ting peo­ple to talk about money.

Talk Money Week is the an­nual event that wants to get more peo­ple talk­ing about their fi­nances.

This links closely to the West Loth­ian An­tiPoverty Strat­egy 2018/19 to 2022/23 which aims to re­duce stigma of poverty and mit­i­gate the im­pact on lo­cal peo­ple.

The Ad­vice Shop and part­ners have de­vel­oped a series of ac­tiv­i­ties and events that will take place through­out the week across the Fauld­house and Bre­ich Val­ley Area from Novem­ber 12 to Novem­ber 16.

The type of ac­tiv­i­ties and sup­port of­fered to West Loth­ian res­i­dents dur­ing Talk Money Week 2018 in­clude fi­nan­cial ad­vice in­clud­ing in­come max­imi­sa­tion, debt and bud­get­ing ad­vice, how to use a price com­par­i­son web­site, Uni­ver­sal Credit and MOOD ( Men­tal Health Op­tions for Older Peo­ple with De­pres­sion).

There will also be in­for­ma­tion and sup­port stalls.

De­pute coun­cil leader Kirsteen Sul­li­van, who is also chair of the West Loth­ian Com­mu­nity Plan­ning Part­ner­ship, said: “Many peo­ple are strug­gling with their fi­nances, fac­ing chal­lenges man­ag­ing their money day to day, in plan­ning and pre­par­ing for life events and for the longer term.

“This can im­pact on an in­di­vid­ual’s well­be­ing and health. How­ever there is lots of help avail­able.

“This is a fan­tas­tic series of events that the Ad­vice Shop and part­ners are run­ning and I’d en­cour­age any­one who has ques­tions on mon­e­tary mat­ters to at­tend.”

Ses­sions take place on Mon­day, Novem­ber 12 at The Pit­stop, Ad­diewell from 2pm to 4pm ( Uni­ver­sal Credit Bud­get­ing Sup­port), Tues­day 13, West Calder Com­mu­nity Cent re, 10am to 12pm (The Cost of Can­cer), Wed­nes­day 14, Fauld­house Part­ner­ship Cen­tre and Lon­gridge Com­mu­nity Wing, 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm re­spec­tively, ( The Cost of Can­cer and Price com­par­i­son web­sites), Thurs­day 15, Pol­beth Vil­lage Hall, 2pm to 4pm ( Uni­ver­sal Credit – Bud­get­ing Sup­port), Fri­day 16, Stoney­burn Com­mu­nity Cen­tre, 10am to 12pm (Uni­ver­sal Credit – Bud­get­ing Sup­port).
