Money advice sessions

- Debbie Hall

A number of events will soon be taking place across West Lothian with the aim of getting people to talk about money.

Talk Money Week is the annual event that wants to get more people talking about their finances.

This links closely to the West Lothian AntiPoverty Strategy 2018/19 to 2022/23 which aims to reduce stigma of poverty and mitigate the impact on local people.

The Advice Shop and partners have developed a series of activities and events that will take place throughout the week across the Fauldhouse and Breich Valley Area from November 12 to November 16.

The type of activities and support offered to West Lothian residents during Talk Money Week 2018 include financial advice including income maximisation, debt and budgeting advice, how to use a price comparison website, Universal Credit and MOOD ( Mental Health Options for Older People with Depression).

There will also be information and support stalls.

Depute council leader Kirsteen Sullivan, who is also chair of the West Lothian Community Planning Partnership, said: “Many people are struggling with their finances, facing challenges managing their money day to day, in planning and preparing for life events and for the longer term.

“This can impact on an individual’s wellbeing and health. However there is lots of help available.

“This is a fantastic series of events that the Advice Shop and partners are running and I’d encourage anyone who has questions on monetary matters to attend.”
