Go walk­a­bout and keep fit Walk­ing groups can help beat the win­ter blues

Any­one who wants to keep fit and ac­tive over the win­ter months can take ad­van­tage of free in­struc­tor- led walks through­out West Loth­ian.

The c o u n c i l’s He a l t h Im­prove­ment Team has or­gan­ised the walks to suit all ages and abil­i­ties.

Start­ing on Fri­day, an Age­ing Well group meets at Liv­ingston Xcite and on Mon­day at 10.15am walk­ers meet at Bath­gate Tesco.

On Tues­day at 10am meet at Craigs­farm in Craigshill to take the Lizzie Bryce Walk.

At 10am in Ar­madale a walk leaves from the Rail­way Sta­tion cy­cle path and in Whit­burn at 10am Age­ing Well mem­bers meet at Whit­burn Li­brary and will take the town walk. On Wed­nes­day at 10am a walk leaves from Tesco at Lin­lith­gow and that night at 7pm walk­ers meet at Car­mon­dean. The route will be de­cided on the night.

Fi­nally on Fri­day (Novem­ber 16) at 10am the Age­ing Well group meet again at Liv­ingston Xcite.

A spokesper­son said the walks are de­signed to be in­for­mal and in­clu­sive, adding : “Our groups are friendly and wel­com­ing and the trained walk lead­ers will sup­port new walk­ers to build up their pace and dis­tance. You can meet new friends, dis­cover new walks and im­prove your fit­ness.

“The walk will last about 60 min­utes and you’ll be able to walk at your own pace. Sorry, but dogs are not al­lowed on the walks.”
