Lorna Gra­ham cloven­ford@ya­hoo.co.uk West Kirk United Re­mem­brance Ser­vice Ev­ery­one is in­vited to join us at the West Kirk of Calder, West Calder on Sun­day Novem­ber 11th for a spe­cial ser­vice of Re­mem­brance which will start in the Church at 9:45 am and last for half an hour. At the end of the ser­vice, should you wish, you can be part of a pro­ces­sion led by West Calder Brass band which will pro­ceed along the main street stop­ping at Our Ladies and St Brid­get’s where their con­gre­ga­tion and Boghall Pipe Band will join the pro­ces­sion. This will then con­tinue on to the War Memo­rial at the li­brary where a short ser­vice will com­mence with a two minute si­lence at 11am. The West Kirk wel­comes ev­ery­one to join us in­side at 9:45am Christ­mas Carol Con­cert Choir Re­hearsals start: In the West Kirk on WED­NES­DAY 7th of Novem­ber from 7 - 8 pm We would like to send an open in­vi­ta­tion to ev­ery­one with a love of mu­sic to come along and join us, we have the ex­tremely tal­ented Carolyn Hamil­ton lead us be­hind the Ba­ton. Ev­ery­one is wel­come and you do not need to be able to read mu­sic to “Raise the Roof” with lots of Car­ols and Christ­mas songs at the Con­cert on Fri­day De­cem­ber 14th at 7 pm (The Con­cert lasts for lasts for 1 hour)

mu­nity De­vel­op­ment Trust are cur­rently pre­par­ing for the cen­te­nary of Ar­mistice Day, as part of the ex­tended com­mem­o­ra­tions, they would like to cre­ate a dig­i­tal memo­rial for those who served in the Great War and for those who gave their lives in the Great War, to cre­ate a Her­itage project. They are look­ing for let­ters, mem­o­ra­bilia or any pho­to­graphs that can be scanned and will be added to the Her­itage web­site. Please con­tact the Trust of­fice in West Calder Com­mu­nity Cen­tre if you have any items you wish to be in­cluded. The CDT would also like to cre­ate a Poppy Walk­way to com­mem­o­rate the sac­ri­fices made by so many lo­cal fam­i­lies, they are look­ing for as many peo­ple as pos­si­ble who live or work on the Main Street to dis­play a poppy in their front win­dow. The pop­pies can be sup­plied by the trust for dis­play. They would very much wel­come do­na­tions of knit­ted or cro­chet pop­pies to help cre­ate a dis­play, please con­tact the Trust on 872931 for fur­ther in­for­ma­tion.

Fundrais­ing Af­ter­noon Mu­sic Con­cert in aid of Namibia 2019 Scout­ing Trip will be held on Sun 18th Nov 2-4pm, West Kirk, West Calder. Tick­ets priced £5 for adults, £3 for un­der 16s will be avail­able on the door or from Aong­has or Rhoda Law­ton (via West Kirk or Pol­beth Har­wood Church). Lo­cal Ex­plorer Scout, Aong­has Law­ton has been se­lected to travel with the Forth Re­gion Scouts to Namibia in 2019 to con­tinue the project work in Omakange be­gun in 2017. Three weeks of build­ing projects, help­ing out in the lo­cal schools & other com­mu­nity based work awaits 33 Scouts. Aong­has has raised his tar­get for the Project but is now fundrais­ing to get him­self to Namibia to be part of the Project Team. The con­cert will fea­ture Toc­cata Ladies Choir, Folk Mu­sic from an Ed­in­burgh based group & Aong­has & Friends from West Loth­ian NYCOS will take part. There will also be a raf­fle. A warm wel­come awaits ev­ery­one.

Pol­beth Har­wood Church Sun­day morn­ing wor­ship is a Spe­cial United Re­mem­brance Ser­vice in the West Kirk of Calder at 9:45am. Please note the main street will be closed from 10:30 – 11:30 am on Sun­day Novem­ber 11th.
