Wright crashes out

-

Livingston-born darts ace Peter Wright’s inconsistent form this year continued after he was dumped out of the World Series of Darts finals in the second round.

The flamboyant Wright, who was runner-up in the event in both 2015 and 2016, was the number one seed but was handily swept aside, 6-1, at the hands of Gerwyn Price.

The Melbourne Masters champion never looked at the races against Price, who would go on to defeat Simon Whitlock in the quarter-finals before being defeated by Michael Smith in the semis.

James Wade took the title in a thrilling 11-10 final victory over Smith in Vienna.

Meanwhile, Wright is the second seed in the Grand Slam of Darts which gets underway at the weekend.

Wright, who lost out in the final last season, was drawn in Group E along with Max Hopp, Josh Payne and Jim Williams.
