Dechmont Community Council is to launch a newsletter to keep locals up to date on the big developments planned for the area.

The community council has been awarded a grant of £ 750 to produce the newsletter.

West Lothian Council’s Executive agreed this week to fund a newsletter to increase awareness of the community council and encourage wider community participation.

The newsletter will be used to increase awareness of projects the community council has completed and provide information about upcoming projects.

A report to committee added : “It will introduce the members of the community council to residents. The newsletter will also ensure that the community is kept fully informed about the large development planned at Bangour village hospital and seek to ensure that the views of local people are heard and taken into account.”

The search is on for the best job in town as The Centre, Livingston, announces an appeal for four lucky children to become their official Christmas toy testers.

The role will include testing lots of different toys and giving their views on which ones are the most fun, including the recently announced Dream Toys 2018 list of the top-12 toys this Christmas, unveiled this week by the Toy Retailers’ Association in collaboration with the British Toy and Hobby Association, (BTHA).

These include the Barbie Ultimate Kitchen, Cra-ZSlimy Creations Super Slime Studio, Paw Patrol Ultimate Fire Truck and Harry Potter Wizard Training Wand – all expected to fly off the shelves this year.

The toy experts will also be encouraged to put their own top-12 list together.

The role is open to children from four years old and up who are available to attend the boardroom Christmas Toy Testing Session on the afternoon of November 26 from 4.30pm till 6.30pm.

Applications by children, in the form of a letter, should be submitted to enquiries@ thecentrelivingston.comor handed into the Customer Service Desk in the mall, highlighting the skills they have which make them an expert at toy testing and why the mall should choose them.

In return, the children will receive £ 100 worth of gift cards to spend on their favourite toy and a celebratory lunch to mark their new appointment in one of the many restaurants at The Centre, including ASK Italian, wagamama and Nando’s.

Ashley Bisland, deputy centre director at The Centre, said: “We are looking for toy experts to come and work with us for an afternoon to tell us what they really think about the top toys this Christmas and which ones are a firm favourite with them.

“They’ll have a chance to try them out, with an adult who they can bring along on the day and join in a focus group in our boardroom to share their opinions of what really is top of the Christmas wish list for Santa this year and leave with a special present of their own for all their hard work.”
