CHILDREN IN NEED

-

Earlier this month, the walls of Forestbank Community Centre rang out to the sound of viral YouTube hit “Baby Shark”as a Forestbank Toddlers and Ladywell Playgroup joined forces to raise money for Children in Need.

Forestbank Toddlers leaders Kathleen Bell and April Pirrie and childminder Tracy Hamilton came up with the idea last month after a Glasgow shopping centre held a Baby Shark dance-a-thon.

April explained:“The three of us were just talking about how annoyed we were we couldn’t attend the one in Glasgow as we knew our kids would love it, when we decided we would just organise our own.”

Tracy continued:“We thought we’d just get a small group of friends together and raise a few pounds for charity while we had a laugh with the kids. But before we knew it, it had grown fins and teeth! We had people collecting sponsorship money for their children and a friend brought home baking to sell.”

In the end, 56 adults and children attended the event on Monday morning, and the group has raised over £460.

Kathleen concluded:“We are just staggered by the success of the dance-a-thon. We couldn’t have done it without the support of our friends, the playgroup and the parents and childminders who attend toddlers. We can’t wait to find out what the next viral sensation will be so we can do it all again next year.”
