Holt and players visit
Livingston Football Club players and manager Gary Holt spent some time at Williamston Primary School this week to teach the pupils all about football and healthy living.
Former Scotland international Holt was joined by players Matthew Knox and Craig Henderson as they took time out to teach the P7 pupils new skills as well as joining in with some games before a question and answer session.
Holt said: “It’s important for the football club to be a big part of the community and we were delighted to spend some time at the school and interact with the children and teachers, who all seemed to really enjoy themselves.
“A lot of boys and girls want to grow up to become footballers and hopefully we’ve inspired a few of them to go down that path - and maybe even made a few new Livingston fans as well!”
After teaching the kids how to do keepyuppies, the players joined in for some minigames before the pupils got to quiz the pros about life as a footballer - from their favourite teams and players as well as their daily routine, which includes three training and fitness sessions per day, and how they coped with any injuries during their career.
And afterwards, the trio made sure to sign autographs for all the youngsters.
Mrs Mayhew, health and wellbeing teacher at the school, helped to set up the session and said she was delighted to welcome the footballers to the school.
She commented: “We are wanting the pupils to be inspired and have good role models that they look up to and learn from and link that into healthy living and wellbeing in terms of the skills and qualities that they can take into the future.
She added: “People maybe think of being a professional footballer as more of a hobby but it’s a job and you need certain life skills to be able to succeed in that environment. The children loved the experience and chance to get involved with the games and to learn all about being a footballer.”
