(University of the 3rd Age) - Held its monthly meeting on Wednesday November 21 at 2pm in Uphall Community Centre. Ishbel Smith, a director of Mary’s Meals, spoke about their work, providing a daily meal in a place of education for over 1.3 million children in 14 different countries. This encourages some of the world’s poorest children to attend school. Ishbel told us about the founding of this Scottish charity, which is still run from Dalmally in Argyll. The first school to be provided with food was in Malawi, where Mary’s Meals maintains a strong presence. Ishbel described Mary’s Meals’ commitment to working with local education providers, and making sure that the food is delivered to schools as promised, even when local conditions make this difficult. The next U3A Open Meeting will be on Wednesday, December 12 at 1.45 for 2pm in the same venue. This will be the U3A Christmas party. Tickets cost £3 and are available from Helen, below. You may buy your ticket on the day, but please tell Helen you are coming. Any donations of raffle prizes will be gratefully received by the committee. New U3A members are always welcome - please contact the Membership Secretary Helen on 01506 655976.
