Wright could face Alcinas rematch

Peter Wright could be set for a rematch with Toni Alcinas after the number three seed was drawn against the winner of the tie between the Spaniard and Craig Ross in the second round of the PDC World Darts Championsh­ip.

The action in the showpiece event of the darts season gets underway on December 13, with the final at the Alexandra Palace scheduled for New Year’s Day. Two-time champion Michael van Gerwen goes into the event as the top seed, with last year’s champion Rob Cross seeded second.

Wright, who was runner-up in the event in 2014, defeated Alcinas in the first round of the Players Championsh­ip finals last week.

The 48-year-old grabbed a 6-2 win in Maidenhead before beating Max Hopp by the same score in round two.

However‘Snakebite’was edged out in a final-leg thriller by Stephen Bunting in the next round.

Sixteenth seed Daryl Gurney upset Van Gerwen with an 11-9 win in the final.
