Broxburn hit the top again

- Broxburn Ath .......... 4 Craigroyston ........... 0

Broxburn Athletic climbed back to the top of the East of Scotland Conference C table with a commanding home win over Craigroyston.

Athletic bounced back in style after suffering their first league defeat of the season the previous week away at local rivals Linlithgow Rose.

The hosts should have comfortably been in the lead prior to their opening goal, which arrived just before the half hour mark when Nicholas Locke beat the offside trap and slotted past the keeper.

Their dominance was properly reflected in the scoreline at the break when Chris Townsley doubled his side’s advantage in the latter stages of the first half as he rose the highest to bullet a header from Craig Scott’s corner-kick into the net.

Conor Kelly almost made it three on 56 minutes but wasn’t able to get any real power behind his effort as the hosts tried to put the game to bed.

They would be able to do that barely two minutes later, though, when Locke’s fine run down the right resulted in Greg Binnie turning the cross beyond the keeper.

The points were in the bag now, but that didn’t stop Brian McNaughton’s men looking to add to their lead and they made it four in the closing stages.

Binnie turned from finisher to provider when he played in Scott Richards who calmly found the net to mark his return from a long injury lay-off in style with a neat goal.

It was a commanding victory for the Albyn Park side, but they will likely be put under significantly more pressure this weekend when they make the trip to Penicuik Athletic for a Football Nations Qualifying Cup third round fixture.
