Lions drop to eighth place at Ibrox

- Rangers ........................ 3 Livingston ..................... 0

Callum Carson Livingston boss Gary Holt believed his side didn’t get the luck needed as a late double saw them fall at Ibrox.

Having fallen behind to a Daniel Candeias header midway through the first half, the Lions were arguably the better team after the interval but failed to find a leveller before being hit twice in the closing stages as they pushed forward.

The defeat drops Livi into eighth place and makes it four games without a goal, but a positive Holt commented: “I’ve told the players that they need to take it on the chin. We had a gameplan, we went toe-to-toe and we were well in the game and I firmly believe in the second half that we were the better team. It’s harsh, but it’s football.

“We just never got that wee bit of luck in front of goal. Big Al (Lithgow) has hit the post in the first half and I believe we should have had a penalty. You’re just hoping that when you come to these stadiums that you get that wee bit of luck and we just never got it.”

The boss had a selection headache going into the game with four strikers unavailable due to injuries and suspension. That saw Scott Robinson deployed as a makeshift lone striker for the visitors.

The away side were forced to soak up some early pressure, but it was actually they who had the first genuine chance of the contest on 10 minutes. A free-kick from distance was only partially cleared by the Gers with Shaun Byrne firing though a crowd. Lithgow attempted to divert the ball into the net, but it trickled off the outside the post.
