The Scottish Huntington’s Association is on the lookout for daredevils in West Lothian to take part in a charity skydive.

The charity supports families impacted by the degenerative neurological condition and is looking for people willing to take the plunge to help raise funds.

“This is a great opportunity to experience one of the ultimate adrenalin rushes, hurtling through the sky at 120 mph with the added advantage of raising our profile and some money to help fund our work,” said SHA community fundraiser, Linda Winters. Those impacted by HD may eventually lose the ability to walk, talk, eat, drink or make decisions and will eventually need 24 hour care. It is also hereditary with each child of those diagnosed at 50 per cent risk developing the disease. There is currently no cure. The skydive takes place at Strathallan Airfield, Perthshire on May 11 next year.

The SHA is asking each jumper to commit to raising a minimum of £450. Please contact Linda to register on 0141 848 0308 or email linda. winters@hdscotland.org.

West Lothian school pupils are joining in a national fundraiser.

Company, Empteezy Group, have gifted £25,000 for a second time, allowing youngsters the opportunity to Sleep in the Park for Social Bite. The initiative sees fundraisers spending a night under the stars to raise vital funds for homelessness in Scotland. Amongst those preparing for their big sleep out are nine pupils from Deans Community High School, who, thanks to the donation made by Bruce Wishart of Empteezy Group, will be joining 2000 youngsters at the event on December 8. The event aims to raise around £4 million to help eradicate homelessness in Scotland - the funds going directly to a Housing First project dedicated to helping 800 across five cities. Mr Wishart said Sleep in the Park is a “great opportunity to involve young people in tackling homelessness which continues to be widespread across the country”. He added: “Sleep in the Park will give pupils a firsthand experience on the freezing conditions thousands of people are subject to every winter and involve them in a major movement to eradicate homelessness for good.” Deans Community High’s head teacher, Pauline Allison, said: “It speaks volumes as to the character of the young people of Deans that they will give up their home comforts for the night to take part in such a worthwhile cause and I’m delighted that they are so keen to make the most of Mr Wishart’s big-hearted donation to this.” The event has a star-studded line up of performers including KT Tunstall, Lulu, Kyle Falconer, Eddi Reader and Amy Macdonald. Josh Littlejohn, co-founder of Social Bite, said: “The generosity of these donors, and those already signed up, means that we have already raised over £ 1 million, and are another step closer to making a huge difference to homelessness in Scotland.”
