Action demanded on St John’s staff parking
Miles Briggs MSP said: “The parking difficulties at St John’s Hospital continue to increase and clearly need a renewed focus to find a long-term, sustainable solution.
“The fact that NHS staff have simply been excluded from parking at St John’s is not the solution and the way this has been undertaken has rightly angered and upset many NHS staff who have not been included and consulted on the changes.
“I have been calling for NHS Lothian to develop a long- term solution to the increasing parking issues at St John’s and called for a local working group to be established to consider how we can deliver a long-term solution to the problem.
“The NHS in Scotland is already in a challenging situation and there shouldn’t be additional problems for staff, patients and visitors, such as not being able to get a parking space.”
George Curley, director of facilities, NHS Lothian said: “The new parking procedural changes for Car Park P at St John’s are necessary to ensure that the overall balance of spaces available for patients, visitors and staff is appropriate.
“The changes will help increase access to our services, where possible reduce the number of patient complaints due to lack of parking and reduce the risk of violence and aggression towards our car parking team. Another solution we’re trialling is to find alternative off site parking arrangements which will help relieve the challenges the site faces.”
