Young gymnasts turn on the style

Over 70 pupils from across the county competed in the recent West Lothian Primary Schools’ Gymnastics competitio­n.

The youngsters participat­ed across four separate competitio­n levels and displayed a range of skills including vault and floor.

Pupils worked hard leading up to the event which was organised by West Lothian’s Active Schools and Community Sport Team. PE staff, teachers and coaches worked alongside the pupils in order to prepare their routines and skills for the competitio­n.

Their dedication and hard work was evident on the day. The overall winners were as follows:

In the Pre- Level One Competitio­n, the top school was Parkhead Primary School while the top individual gymnasts were – 1st Katie Anderson, 2nd Laura Daly, 3rd Murin Rennie.

Carmondean Primary School took the overall top school award at Level One while Carys Davies (Broxburn) and Georgia Spencer (Knightsrid­ge) were joint winners in the individual standings. Rosie White of Carmondean finished in third place. In the Level Two competitio­n, Meldrum PS took the top school award with their pupils Emma Burrows and Amy Dickov finishing second and third respective­ly in the individual gymnast standing. Beth Nicol of St Ninian’s RC won the individual Level Two title.

Carmondean made it a double as they followed up their Level One team title by finishing top school in the Level Three competitio­n.

Sophie Barnett (Parkhead PS) took the individual award, with Zak Swift (Carmondean PS) and Evie Greenwell (Balbardie PS) being joint second.

The top two teams from each level will now go on to represent West Lothian in the Scottish Schools’ Finals, which are set to take place in Perth in May next year.
