Thistle dumped in cup after beating big chill

-

Almost the entire fixture list was beaten by the weather at the weekend as Bathgate Thistle were the only West Lothian team to play.

They will no doubt be wishing they, too, had the day off as they were dumped out of the Fife and Lothians Cup at the second round stage as they lost 1-0 away to Thornton Hibs.

Garry Thomson netted the only goal of the game midway through the second half but the Premier League South side gave a decent account of themselves against their top tier hosts.

All other games featuring local sides were called off due to a frozen pitch, while the same was the case over in the East of Scotland Football League as Broxburn Athletic and Linlithgow Rose saw their away games in Conference C cancelled.

The Juniors are now on a break over the festive period and return to action on Saturday, January 5, when a pair of derby games in the Premier League South are scheduled as Bathgate Thistle visit league leaders Pumpherston and Harthill Royal making the short trip to Beechwood Park to face Stoneyburn.

There’s no East of Scotland Football League action this weekend but both Blackburn United and Broxburn Athletic have Conference C fixtures on December 29.
