£250,000 drug raids after tip-off

- SEAN O’NEIL

Drugs worth over £ 250,000 were seized by police after a series of morning raids.

Police said Operation Borah recovered over 350 cannabis plants with an estimated street value of around £250,000 and £10,000 in cash.

At one commercial property in Fauldhouse 300 plants were seized. 36 plants were recovered at another address in West Lothian.

On Wednesday, December 19, eight search warrants were executed at addresses in Livingston, Broxburn, West Calder and Blackburn.

At one property they found two children in the care of a woman who had recently injected heroin.

Detective Inspector Paul Batten said that the warrants had been issued following information provided by the public and police informants.

And he said links to organised crime, especially in terms of the Fauldhouse raid, were still being investigated.

Eight people aged 18- 57 were arrested in connection with drug offences following the raids.

DI Batten said: “Those involved in the production of cannabis cultivations are not only breaking the law but they are often putting themselves and others at risk due to the methods utilised in the cultivation process, including using powerful heating lamps and bypassing the mains electricity supply, which increases the risk of fires.”

Inspector Adam Smith, deputy area commander, said: “The public have a vital role to play in helping us tackle drug supply and we are thankful to them for the information they have provided.”
