Call to regulate electrical trade

-

Local MSP Neil Findlay has urged electricians to support the regulation of their trade. SELECT, the trade association that represents t h e e l e c t ro t e c h n i c a l businesses, the Scottish Joint Industry ( SIJB) and Unite the Union are fighting for ‘ Protection of Title’ for the electrician profession. Currently, anyone can claim to be an electrician without holding a qualification. As a result, electrical work is often executed inaccurately which leads to a higher risk of injury or death. Neil Findlay MSP said: “I am encouraging all electricians to support the regulation of their trade in the interests of their own safety and that of their customers. The status quo is not working. The electrical trade must be regulated so that the public are assured that work is only carried out by those who are properly qualified to do so. If you are an electrical tradesman, I would urge that you voice your concerns to the Scottish Government who have the ability to take action.”
