Lawrence Fitzpatrick – Leader WL Council
It has been another good year for West Lothian, as the area continues to grow and prosper.
Our dedicated school pupils excelled themselves once more to record the best ever set of exam results once more.
This is the sixth consecutive year of exam improvement and credit must go to all of the young people for their hard work in this achievement, alongside those who have supported them such as parents, carers and teachers.
We are continuing to support our young people to achieve their full potential by investing in our school estate, which is one of the best in Scotland.
The opening of the fantastic new £32 million West Calder High School gives us the best school in Scotland as a platform for learning. We have opened new partnerships centres in Blackburn and Armadale this year, creating new hubs for services and facilities in the heart of our local communities.
Joining other partnership centres across West Lothian, this allows the council to improve services while making savings.
The council has faced a decade of financial challenges due to reductions in our budget, and this is likely only to increase going forward.
We will continue deliver the best possible outcomes for West Lothian within existing resources through wise use of our reducing resources.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a good Christmas and a peaceful New Year.
