East of Scotland duo aim to end year in style

West Lothian Courier - - Review of the Year -

Broxburn Athletic and Blackburn United are hoping to sign off 2018 in style with victories on Saturday afternoon.

Athletic would go level on points with West Lothian rivals Linlithgow Rose at the top of the East of Scotland Football League Conference C table if they can get the better of Camelon at Albyn Park and other results go their way.

It will be a first return to Athletic for the club’s former striker Kieran Anderson, who is the East of Scotland’s top scorer with 31 goals to his name already this term after making the summer switch to the Mariners. Kick-off at Albyn Park is 2.30pm.

Blackburn United face a tough task as they make the journey to Perth to take on an undefeated Jeanfield Swifts side (1.30pm kick-off).

United have had an inconsistent start to life at senior level but will be aiming to secure a top-five place in the table.

They are the only two West Lothian clubs with competitive fixtures with Linlithgow Rose having a bye week, while the East Region Juniors have shut down over the festive period.

They are back in action next weekend ( January 5) with two derby fixtures as Pumpherston host Bathgate Thistle and Stoneyburn welcome Harthill Royal.
