Will this be year wishes come true

-

Happy New Year and, from everyone at Slimming World, we hope 2019 sees all your New Year wishes come true.

January often means cosy nights in and spending valuable time with family and friends whilst thinking about tightening purse strings after Christmas.

Katie Hill, who runs a Slimming World group in West Calder, said: “January can also mean thoughts turn to New Year resolutions and often that includes being healthier and losing weight.

“Slimming World’s Food Optimising eating plan allows slimmers to fill up on plenty of healthy foods such as potatoes, pasta and lean meats.

“You can even have your cake and eat it following Food Optimising.

“So you can join in the fun without jeopardising your weight loss or spending a small fortune.”

Katie was a semi-finalist in the Consultant Slimmer of the Year competition at Slimming World’s head office in February and also featured in the national Slimming World magazine in the summer.

She said: “When I joined Slimming World everything changed.

“From the very first week I learned that actually you can feel full and lose weight enjoying all your favourite dishes, just by making small changes to the way you shop, cook and eat.

“I eat more than I ever did before. I just eat smarter, filling up on lean meat, vegetables, fruit, potatoes, rice and fat-free diary before anything else.

“I make healthy, home-made meals from scratch that the whole family can enjoy. My family can’t get enough of Slimming Worldstyle mince and tatties, for example, and I can still enjoy a regular glass of wine or small bar of chocolate too.”

Katie made this massive decision and step towards her new life with Slimming World after having difficulty during her pregnancy with her son.

She was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and suffered complications during childbirth. She was warned after her pregnancy that her likeliness to develop type 2 diabetes was high, especiallly as it is hereditary in her family.

It is estimated that the NHS spends about £ 10 billion on diabetes every year.

One in seven hospital beds is occupied by someone who has diabetes.

The prevalence of type 2 diabetes is increasing rapidly in Scotland, as in many other countries.

The largest part of the increase is likely to be due to poor diet, specifically excess energy intake and low levels of physical activity.

Since joining Slimming World Katie is in control of her health and lost a massive 8 stone 6.5lb to become a healthy weight and have a healthy lifestyle.

One member of Katie’s West Calder group said: “I can feed the family and guarantee losing on the scales each week.

“By using the Take 5 recipe book I have been able to make simple recipes without worrying about spending a fortune.

“Everyone in my family eats and enjoys the Food Optimising meals.

“It is great being able to make a meal that everyone will eat instead of everyone eating differently.

“It has made such a positive change to my everyday life that my teenager has chosen to join group too and become a Free to Go member.

“It has been amazing feeling, not just my growth in self-esteem and confidence but also seeing it in other family members.”

The West Calder Slimming World group is held every Tuesday at 5.30pm at Limefield Church. For more information contact Katie Hill on 07722006961.
