Defeat doesn’t define Livi’s season

-

Livingston boss Gary Holt says his side have to be more ‘streetwise’ following their defeat to Aberdeen but says the loss won’t take away from what has been a great start to the season.

The Lions were hit on the counter-attack for the Dons’ second goal and the boss says: “It’s been a great year and we didn’t want it to end the way it has but Aberdeen are a very good side, probably an exceptional side and I felt we went toe-to-toe with them.

“Was it a quality game? No it wasn’t and all three goals were pretty scrappy and we lost out.

“We have to be a little bit more streetwise in certain areas of the pitch and take a foul or a booking when we’re caught on the hop and it can get your team out of a hole.”

He added: “I don’t think there was much in the game and really there wasn’t much quality given the attacking options on the pitch.

“You don’t like any defeat, no matter when it comes, but I think we’ve shown that we have matched them. We wanted to create more but I can’t fault the guy’s efforts.

“It’s the last game before the winter break so we’ll take it on the chin and probably nurse it a wee bit longer than most defeats.

“In the second half of the season, I want to see the same, the same hunger, the same work-rate and desire to improve which is what we get all the time.

“Our expectations are to guarantee 10th and we’re not looking at anything else until that’s done.

“As soon as we can do that, then we can start looking at where we can get to but until that’s done and dusted we will keep looking at who is above us and the next game and seeing if we can match them and give them a good game.

“It’s not tempting at all to look further forward because he have no other target at all right now.”
