BRING BACK ROBBY

McCrorie signing hope

- CALLUM CARSON

Livingston boss Gary Holt is hopeful the Lions will be able to sign goalkeeper Robby McCrorie on loan from Rangers.

The stopper spent the latter half of last season in West Lothian, making eight appearances for the club before the campaign was brought to a premature end.

The 22- year- old recently penned a new deal with the Ibrox club but is expected to be sent back out on loan after the Gers signed former Hearts and Sunderland keeper Jon McLaughlin.

And Holt is hopeful that the player’s familiarity with the club will give Livi the edge on any deal.

Speaking to the Courier, he said: “Bringing Robby back is something we’ve been talking about and trying to get done but he’s got a lot of suitors.

“He’s a great young keeper and there’s plenty of clubs after him. Hopefully we can be in pole position to get it done.

“He was here last season, he’d know what he’d be working with and he certainly enjoyed his time here so we’re hoping that if he’s going out on loan then all that plays a factor.”

He added: “He can see what we’re trying to do at this club and how we want to build it so it’s just a case of needing to wait and see what happens on that front but it’s definitely something that we’d be interested in getting done if Rangers made it possible.”

The Lions are in their second week of pre-season and beginning to ramp up preparations for the new campaign but the gaffer is making sure the players are not pushed too far.

He said: “With the fixtures coming out on Monday, that adds a wee bit of spice to things because it makes the new season real, in a sense, and it’s not that long until we play now.

“It’s a shortened pre-season but we’re doing everything we can to get the boys up to speed without breaking them. That’s the most important thing.

“We need to try and get everyone up and running with as few injuries as possible. We know we’re going to pick up some niggling injuries because of how long they’ve been off.

“They’re a good bunch and they need to be honest with us. If they feel any wee niggles tell us. There’s no point in pushing through and then being out for longer. We don’t need that kind of bravado.

“We need them to be open and honest and as a coaching staff we need to recognise that guys might not train the following day or that afternoon and realise that’s the best thing long-term for everyone.”
