Youth group seek new home

- JOHN-PAUL CLARK

A West Lothian youth group has made a plea to find new premises.

The West Lothian Youth Action Project in Livingston urgently need the new space for their valued training workshop that helps to give young people practical life skills.

The Youth Action Project has been operating in West Lothian for the past 27 years, supporting young people and the wider community.

The Courier reported in May that they had joined the coronavirus relief effort and were taking out supplies to vulnerable people in their community.

Now they are appealing for help to continue on with their vital workshop.

Project director Helen Davis said:“We have three weeks to find a new home for our training workshop, due to circumstances out with our control we need to relocate our facility.

“This workshop houses our popular ‘Tooled Up‘ programme, through which many young people have gained SVQ modules and e learning certificates, leading them into employment and further education courses.

“The relationships built between staff and young people helps build confidence, raises aspirations and positive life choices, we really don’t want to lose this valuable project.

“The space required is a secure empty workshop area, minimum size 12m x14 m, with toilet facility and ideally a separate office or meeting space for the young people to carry out computer based learning and written work. There also needs to be parking facilities for a minibus and van.

“We provide young people who experience difficulties in mainstream school or are unemployed, with practical skills in joinery, basic construction, painting, bike repairs and many other practical life skills. We work in partnership with schools, social work, police and many voluntary organisations.

“We are willing to consider units/ workshops anywhere in West Lothian”
