Luxury canalside homes plan

- JOHN-PAUL CLARK

Contractors have announced plans to build 64 new canalside apartments and houses in West Lothian.

The luxury homes will be built in Winchburgh, overlooking the new canal marina, with 50 one, two and three-bed apartments as well as 14 three-bed townhouses set within landscaped grounds.

The contractors, J.Smart & Co bought the prime waterfront site from Winchburgh Developments Limited (WDL) as part of the village’s expansion.

Located at the heart of the new town centre, the marina will be connected by a footbridge to the new Daisy Park and provide access to the Union Canal towpath.

John Hamilton, CEO, Winchburgh Developments Limited said:“We are delighted to welcome J Smart & Co to Winchburgh, at both of these highly desirable locations.

“The new canal marina will offer its residents a superb lifestyle, located in the heart of the town with access to the towpaths and cycle routes, parks and shops. As a result, we anticipate they will be highly sought after.

“The four architect-designed homes occupy a prominent gateway site at one of the entrances to the village, and their low-density design, landscaping and convenient location close to Auldcathie District Park and opposite the new school campus makes this an exciting addition to the masterplan.”

David Smart, chairman and joint managing director, J Smart & Co. (Contractors) PLC said:“We are delighted to be given this opportunity by Winchburgh Developments Limited to develop two prominent new housing developments in Winchburgh, which offer an impressive range of new local amenities and schooling with excellent access to surrounding areas.”

Spanning 352 hectares, the ongoing work in Winchburgh is one of the largest projects currently under way in the UK.

When complete, the new development will have at least 3800 homes, including 750 affordable homes of which 450 will be for social rent.
