£30,000 cash boost from Children in Need

A West Lothian project for disadvanta­ged children has been awarded £30,000 by Children in Need.

Home-Start in Livingston offers support, friendship and practical help to parents with young children, in communitie­s throughout West Lothian.

The new funding award will support the delivery of vital services to young people in the area and means that the across West Lothian, Children in Need is currently funding four projects to a value of more than £193,328.

Home-Start West Lothian has been awarded £30,000, over three years.

The money will help the family support group provide trips for families with young children who are facing various challenges and disadvanta­ges.

Attending the sessions will give children the opportunit­y to have fun and make friends, whilst also improving their social skills, developing their confidence and becoming more connected with their community.

Stuart Barrie, scheme manager at Home- Start West Lothian said: “We’re delighted to hear that we have been awarded this new funding from BBC Children in Need which will enable us to provide crucial support to children and their families in our local community.”

Speaking of the new award, Florence Burke, national head of Scotland at BBC Children in Need said: “We’re so pleased to have been able to award Home-Start West Lothian with this funding. At a time of so many additional challenges for so many families, this grant demonstrat­es how important it is that we’re able to continue to support positive changes in local children and young people’s lives.”

Simon Antrobus, chief executive of BBC Children in Need, said: “At a time when children and young people need our support more than ever, I am incredibly proud to be awarding funding which will go on to positively impact their lives.

“These grants were only made possible thanks to our remarkable supporters, so a big thank you to everyone who supported us in 2019.”
