MAN HURT IN HOUSE EXPLOSION
Emergency crews rush to scene and rescue householder
A man was rushed to hospital after an explosion ripped through his house in West Lothian.
Emergency services dashed to the scene in Whitburn on Tuesday morning after reports of a loud bang.
The householder, named locally as Bill Mazs, is believed to have been alone at home with his pet dog when the incident took place on Dixon Road.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9.30am on Tuesday, December 8, police and emergency services were called to a report of an explosion in a house in Dixon Road, Whitburn.
“One man was taken by ambulance to a local hospital
and another man was treated by paramedics at the scene. A neighbouring house was evacuated as a precaution.
“Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the explosion continue.”
Bill’s family provided an update on Facebook on Tuesday night.
The message, attributed to the Mazs family, was posted to the Facebook page, Bash Community Buzz, and reads: “Bill is doing ok, he has a few minor burns.
“He’s comfortable in hospital and we should know better over the next few days. Thanks for everyone’s concern.”
The house is a councilowned property and a West Lothian Council spokesperson said the authority is supporting the residents. They said: “We are aware of an incident at one of our properties at Dixon Road, Whitburn. We are assisting the emergency services.
“Our priority is the welfare of our tenants and we are providing help and assistance to all tenants affected. This will include emergency temporary accommodation for those affected if required.”
