West Lothian WAG in skin cancer warning

- COURIER REPORTER

West Lothian WAG Caitlyn Melville has posted a skin cancer warning to her followers and opened up about her own frightening experience.

The girlfriend of Leigh Griffiths made an emotional Instagram post to honour Skin Cancer Awareness Month.

She shared two pictures of scars from previous operations to remove moles and said that as she has seen many people post about sunbeds and tanning on holiday recently that she wanted to speak out.

The 27-year-old dental nurse, from Linlithgow, has been dating the Celtic striker for three years and urged her followers to be extra cautious and check any moles and freckles.

In the post, she wrote: “May is Skin Cancer Awareness month. Don’t normally do posts like this since my operations but it’s weird how I’ve felt I wanted to this year

“I don’t know if it’s because sunbeds and sunny holidays have been off limits for so long that there now is such a buzz about them that there wasn’t before? Keep seeing and hearing so many people saying how they’ve ‘hammered the sunbeds’ and ‘can’t wait to get away to fry myself ’ so maybe that’s why this year is the year.

“I’m absolutely not here to preach to people not to use sunbeds or go on holiday and get a tan but just please be careful.

“Everyone always thinks ‘it won’t happen to me’ just like I did and then it WAS me.”

She added: “If you do anything this month please check any moles/freckles in case they have changed or in case new ones have appeared.

“If you are worried see your GP.

“All they can say is no it’s nothing to worry about or investigate quickly - it’s a win win. Stay safe.”

And many praised Caitlyn for raising awareness.

One wrote: “Thank you for sharing.”

Another added: “Been here twice too.

“Thank you for sharing.” While one said: “Well done sharing this and being so brave to do so Caitlyn.”

Skin Cancer Awareness Month is run by the Skin Cancer Founation.
